| NFRIA Corporate Giving
Policy
The North Fork River Improvement Association (NFRIA) may accept
grants and gifts from businesses and/or corporate foundations when:
A. the business entity offers "general unrestricted support" for
NFRIA and has a clear understanding and support of the basic goals
of NFRIA, or
B. the business entity offers restricted project grant money for
a project that clearly furthers NFRIA's adopted core goals.
Donations must also meet the following conditions:
1. A contribution in no way limits or puts unspoken expectation
on actions NFRIA may take on policies NFRIA may advocate.
2. Accepting a gift does not hinder NFRIA's ability to comment
on a particular legislative bill or policy position.
3. The following contributions must be approved by NFRIA's Board:
a. contributions over 10 percent of NFRIA's annual budget,
b. a contribution to fund more than 50 percent of a project,
c. requests to endorse a business donor's product or environmental
policies or practices.
4. All information and/or research gathered with support from a
corporate donor remains part of the public domain and are gathered,
processed, and reported using scientific, objective techniques.
The North Fork River Improvement Association believes that private
sector funding is vital to an overall strategy that supports NFRIA's
mission. Acceptance of a corporate donation does not constitute
NFRIA's endorsement of the donor's products, policies, or environmental
practices.
