Site # 7 - River Park and Paonia Ditch Diversion

Site Plan-732 KB

Location - SE ¼ Section 31, NW ¼ Section 32, T13S, R91W, 6th PM From Latitude 38o52'30", Longitude 107o35'45" to Latitude 38o53'05" Longitude 107o35'00" USGS Bowie Quadrangle

At NFRIA permanent cross section No. 2 & 3 Turn south on Hwy 187 toward Paonia off of Hwy 133.

Take 1st left past bridge over river and drive into Delta Sand & Gravel operation.

Identified Problem - Habitat loss due to in-channel excavation for the existing gravel mining operation. Headcuts have extended upstream approximately ¼ mile to the Paonia Ditch diversion. Delta Sand & Gravel and Bowie Resources, the landowner on the other side, are considering donating the river bottom land and the floodplain to public access. The Lamborn Valley Farm upstream would also consider a donation. This would create a 1 linear mile river park open to the public.

The project would include the reconstruction of the channel, revegetation of the floodplain, and the rebuilding of the Paonia Ditch diversion.

This would restore approximately 80 acres.
