At NFRIA permanent cross section No. 9 Access approximately ½ mile north on J 75 Drive off of Hwy 92 on the left.

Identified Problem - The site is an existing in-stream gravel mining operation. Bank erosion, headcutting, and over-excavation in the channel has decimated fish and wildlife habitat. The solution would require reconstruction of the channel, reconstruction of an existing irrigation diversion, numerous rock structures for channel and bank stabilization, and revegetation of the banks and floodplain using several bioengineering techniques along approximately 1 mile of the river.

Approximately 100 acres of habitat will be restored. The landowner would like to sell the development rights and the two current in-stream mining permits.

A conservation easement was completed on 79 acres of river corridor.  An in-stream gravel mine was retired.  Reconstruction of the Vandiford Ditch diversion is within the easement area.

Partners for this site include the Curry Family, Colorado Open Lands, Colorado Division of Wildlife Conservation Fund, and potentially Great Outdoors Colorado.
